Getting Started with Your ICBC Claim
After reporting your crash and receiving an ICBC claim number,
contact the clinic to schedule your initial assessment.
We will confirm the information required for direct billing before
submitting eligible treatment charges to ICBC.
Early Access Treatment
ICBC currently provides up to
12 standard acupuncture sessions,
including the initial visit, during the first 12 weeks after a crash.
For eligible Early Access treatment, a referral from a physician
or nurse practitioner and separate ICBC pre-approval are generally
not required.
Coverage remains subject to ICBC eligibility and billing rules.
Any patient portion or service outside ICBC coverage will be
explained before treatment.

- Your Personal Health Number (PHN)
- The date of the crash
- Your ICBC recovery specialist’s contact information,
when available - Relevant medical reports or referral documents,
when available
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your first appointment includes a review of your crash-related
symptoms, health history, daily activity limitations, and care goals.
An individualized treatment plan will then be discussed with you.
Depending on your assessment and informed consent, care may include:
- Acupuncture
- Electroacupuncture
- Cupping therapy
- Other Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities when appropriate
Treatment recommendations are adjusted according to your presentation,
progress, response, and ICBC coverage status.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
A physician or nurse practitioner referral is generally not required
for eligible, pre-authorized acupuncture sessions during ICBC’s initial
Early Access period. Different requirements may apply to treatment
outside that period.
Will I have to pay anything?
ICBC pays its applicable standard treatment fee for eligible sessions.
A patient portion may apply when a clinic charge or service is outside
ICBC coverage. We will clarify any expected patient responsibility
before treatment.
What if my crash happened more than 12 weeks ago?
Additional treatment may still be considered, but authorization from
ICBC may be required. Please contact the clinic with your claim
information so that the applicable process can be reviewed.
Can the clinic bill ICBC directly?
Yes. Holy Family Acupuncture can submit eligible treatment charges
directly to ICBC when the claim and treatment meet ICBC’s billing
requirements.
